Chapter 6

The Starving Time

In this chapter, many of the settlers of Jamestown were starving. In 1609- 1610 people in Jamestown were so hungry because they were running out of food to eat. They were so hungry that one settler even ate his dead wife. Others ate dogs, cats, boots, shoes, snakes, mice, and rats. The Powhatan would not trade with the settlers or let them out to hunt or fish.

The first white settlers to marry were John Laydon and Anne Burras. They had a baby girl called Virginia.
